this morning, sometime around 10AM EST Champ left us. She went quietly, in the arms of those who loved her. I wish I got a chance to say goodbye. |

so it's been a pretty upsetting past few days. i've been letting people know, so you may have already heard, but for those that care and maybe haven't heard...
for the majority of the summer Champ has been fighting something, possibly hepatitis. whatever it is has ravaged her liver. we got the news a few days ago that she's now got a blockage in her gall bladder. this is basically the first of her organs shutting down due to her liver not functioning. we've had to make the incredibly tough decision to not do the operation on her gall bladder. there are a number of reasons for this, the main being that the vets can't guarantee her surviving the operation. there is an extremely high chance that the sedative will kill her, because her liver won't be able to process it, she'll essentially overdose. about a month ago she needed had a procedure to try to figure out what's wrong with her liver, and she narrowly recovered from the sedation, and they gave her the minimal dose. the second reason being that if she does recover from this operation, we still don't have any idea why her liver is failing, and there's a possibility that it isn't something that’s curable. and lastly of course in the sheer cost, it's already been a few thousand dollars to get this point and they're estimating almost $10,000 to complete this procedure, and of course we get no guarantee that either she'll survive the surgery, or it'll actually cure her. even after all that, she still has this liver problem. the last thing we want to do is give up on her, but if it's Champ's last days we want them to be spent having a good time, and not in some animal hospital that she really hates being at.
so if you are in the area, and would like to, please feel free to stop by my parent's house and say goodbye to Champy - it would make her really happy to see some old friends. just give my parents a call before you head over so they know you're coming and can be there for you to see her, if you need the number send me an email, or post a comment. if you're planning on it make sure it's soon, they've told us that when she starts to go it will be very quickly, and could be as soon as tonight. sorry i was so late in posting this, i haven't had my shit together the past few days. i really hope you'll get to see her if you want to, it would really make her happy.
also, if you've got any photos of Champy you can post them here: http://beaubot.com/gallery/Champ
here's a couple (very)quick videos my Dad took last summer: http://beaubot.com/crap/Champy%20004.avi http://beaubot.com/crap/Champy%20008.avi |

no update in quite a while. i've been busy, i think i'll report what i've been doing in a form of a list.
VIDEO GAMES:
as usual i've been playing quite a bit of battlefield 1942, and as you can see from my stats i've been kicking some ass. but bear in mind that since battlefield 2 came out, all that're left are n00Bz, so it's not that hard. ive been playing burnout takedown too.
coding: a subset of the video games is some coding of bf2 related crap. my computer won't run bf2, so i've just been writing bf2 related scripts, some useful, some utterly useless, thats a list of every bf2 server. i can get player data too, eventually, you'll be able to search out a player with it. i just started that today.

today on my trainride into work this guy with dreads, sock with sandals and a copy of the HOLY BIBLE was preaching the word, but preching it totally in your face. i kept my headphones the whole ride, and he was way down the other end of the train for most of my ride, but right before i got off he made his way down to my end, so i turned down my tunes to hear what he had to say. this dude had just got on the train in bono glasses and the preacher guy got right up in his face and said:
"you think you're cool man? nooah -- you aint cool -- god is cool!"
then some stuff i missed, then the punch to his rant --
"you think hell is cool? hell ain't cool -- hell is HOT."
i really wish i picked up more of this guy's sermon, but i don't think most of it was this good. he just walked over to most people and asked them if they loved god or whatever. one girl was studying and he snatched her notebook and told her she didn't need to go to school, just praise the lord -- and that god didn't want us to study he wanted us to live. |

Action packed weekend. Saturday morning I got up and headed toward the lake to meet up with Martin so we could take in the second cubs game of the season. It was alot of fun, it was Martin's first baseball game ever(he's from London if you didn't know) and everything was new and exciting to him. He was amazed that guys walk around selling hot dogs and beer. It was a little tough explaining the game to him, but he caught on pretty quick, I'm sure I wouldn't understand cricket by the middle of one game.
After the game I went record shopping, and on sunday Jess and I went to a record fair, so I got a ton of records this weekend. I got:
LP's: Secret Affair - Glory Boys : 1980 UK power pop/mod revival. I think this is their second or third album. The second side is pretty good, and it's got an awesome back cover photo.
Rock n Roll with the Modern Lovers : yeah, the one where Jonathan is in hippy v-neck on the cover. I've wanted this record for quite a while and just haven't been able to find it.
The Records - Rock n Roll Love Letter : Three song single with two sub-par power pop songs and one live version of Starry Eyes.
Twist Again with the Low Numbers : Its an orginal press, and was still factory sealed when I bought it, but I opened it so I could listen to it. Somewhere a fat stinky collector is crying.
Green on Red - No Free Lunch & Gas Food Lodging : I got two records by GoR. They're both good if you like Alt-country, or maybe you call it cowpunk.
The Dickies - Dawn of the Dickies : I probably paid to much for this, and it's loaned for promotion so every day I'm going to worry about A&M records knocking on my door to reclaim their record. That's actually Purtle's joke. The last time he was at my house he went though my record collection and told me something to that effect for each and every record that had a promo stamp on it.
The DP's - if you know what I mean : Until I saw this record yesterday I thought that whenever people were writing about the DP's, they just typo-ed DB's. I haven't got a chance to listen to this yet, but the cover is fucking awesome. There's so much going on, and it's a before(front) and after(back) cover, which is something I'm always happy to see.
The Pop - Go! : LA Power Pop. The back cover is dizzying, dalmations laying on wavy horizontal b&w stripes. I listened to the first side and it was pretty ok.
The Plimsouls - self titled first album : I actually found this record at the first booth i checked. It's one of the records that I've been looking for so long that I went all light headed when I found it. I almost bought it off the internet too, I was ready but couldn't find it for a reasonable price.
7" : The Mo-dettes - paint it black : one of my most hated songs to hear covered is Paint it Black. The A side of this is just that, so by default I hate it. The B side it pretty good though.
The Invaders - Best thing I ever did : One of my favorite power pop songs, B side doesn't hold up.
The Distractions - Time goes by slow - Another of my favorite power pop songs, B side does hold up, but just barely.
The Last - She don't know why I'm here : Like the A side, haven't listened to the B side yet.
Holly and the Italians - Tell That Girl to Shut Up : WTF, how many days ago did I post the cover of this? I got this from the same guy who had the Plimsouls record. The B side is a cover of Chapel of Love which is more than a little disappointing. |

Today at work i had absolutly nothing to do, I came across this site that makes very cool use of the new google maps. I figured I'd do a little sightseeing of my own, then challenged myself to find every ballpark in the US -- and I think I may have done it, with some other stuff found along the way.

Jess and I had a really great time this weekend in Milwaukee. We went up with our buddies Michael and Amy so we could DJ on saturday night. Since my car won't go faster than 45mph we rode up with them and their two dogs Lucy and Mateo(i probably didn't spell that right). They warned us that it would be a cramped ride up and one of us would have to ride in the back with the 2 dogs. I was totally up for this, and in fact it sounded like a really positive thing to me. The ride up wasn't bad at all, I didn't even notice how long it took us to get there, I was just so happy to have dogs around again.
When we got to Milwaukee we hit up a record store first thing. I got three records, The Louie Louie comp, The Rank and File record with a rattle snake on the cover and Dumptrucks 'D is for Dumptruck'. Of course the had a copy of the Lambrettas record I just bought off the internerd. Shortly after that we headed to eat. We went to this bar that had all kinds of fried food, and there I had the best onion rings i've had since jackie's dairy bar. The place was filled with a mix of old working class guys in hunting caps, indie hairdos, and sports fans.
After we ate we went to play records. Some guy requested the booji boy theme, i didn't have it but he yelled, screamed and pounded his table when i played uncontrollable urge, and i think it was because he was happy. beards are IN in Milwaukee. we finished djing and an hour of my life was stolen. the next day we headed back, but stopped at a thift store on the way. i bought a tape that was labeled "Murphy Brown". i was hoping that someone had just recorded the audio of some mb epissodes, but it turned out to be a decent motown mix, with clips from murphy brown between the songs, and towards the end of the first side is an extended dance mix of the theme to murphy brown. Jess argues that this tape is some sort of official murphy brown soundtrack album, but i like to think that someone who has mutual loves of both motown and murphy brown merged his two loves on one 90 minute cassette tape.
Top 4 store names I saw on the trip: 4. Omega Burger 3. Big Load Laundry 2. Hugasian Motors 1. Midget Foods |

Boy do I ever need a haircut. I've developed both a ferocious mane and serious case of helmet head. I was doing alright until I lost my cap last weekend. Last week was terrible, I missed it so much, and this has to be the absolute worst time of year to lose a winter hat, because all the stores only have spring stuff -- or at least, I imagine. I didn't exactly go into anywhere to look for a new hat, besides walgreens. It looks like the warming trend has begun though, fingers crossed.
I bought a ton of records this weekend. The best may be the third feelies record and the worst is probably Pearl Harbour's(of Pearl Harbour and the Explosions fame) solo album. I also got an outrageous Sigue Sigue Spitnik record, and an Enigma records comp loaded with mediocre new wave. One of these days i'm going to sit down and make a mediocre new wave tape.
On thursday night I sat and watched La Bamba in it's entirety. I would just like to applaud the guy who played the Big Bopper. I think he had only 3 lines in the movie, and each time the line was only "Heeey Baaaaby" as a greeting to La Bamba, or Buddy Holly or somebody, but shit, the performance was flawless. Damn, whatever happened to Ralpf Machio? I tried to follow up La Bamba with The Commitments, but I didn't get the channel it was on. |

how many songs have the word tantamount in them? theres one i know of but i can't think of it, and this song called 'tantamount to bribery' that i cant get out of my head. could an entire mix be made of songs with that word in them? i should probably finish my 'songs that feature the tambourine' mix first.
ive been thinking about it and i will probably only get one set tomorrow, but i'm going to make in the greatest power pop set ever. i just made 2 cds, if i get the time at work tomorrow i'll post the tracklists for them. |
